The training clinic

How a training clinic works

An associate is a licensed master social worker who is building the hours needed for a clinical license. At Balm they see clients, and a licensed supervisor works with them on every client's care.

Step by step

From your first message to your first session

  1. 01

Step 1: You write or call

Tell us what times suit you and whether you want individual or couples sessions. You do not need to tell us why.

  2. 02

    Step 2: We match you

The intake coordinator matches you with an associate whose schedule fits yours, and tells you who their supervisor is.

  3. 03

Step 3: You see your fee

The sliding scale sets your fee. You have it, and a Good Faith Estimate if you pay without insurance, in writing before you start.

  4. 04

Step 4: You meet your associate

The first session is 60 minutes. Your associate explains how supervision works, and you decide whether to continue.

What you can ask

Questions every client may ask

  • Who supervises my associate?

The answer is on their card on our team page, and your associate will tell you at your first session.

  • What do they discuss?

Your associate can describe, in general, what they work on with their supervisor. They share what they need to, and no more.

  • Can I meet the supervisor?

Yes. Ask your associate or the intake coordinator, and we will set up a time.
